BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2020 ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME DIMMED SUN DUE TO SMOKE ALOFT, OTHERWISE QUIET AND COOL... The talk of the town is all the smoke aloft creating hazy skies and dimmed sunlight. It has afforded for some pretty photogenic sunrises and sunsets. Other than that, there really isn't much to write home about today. It has been an exceptionally quiet day with only a few lower stratocumulus clouds to look at off the east this morning, shifting to the south this afternoon. The wind has been pretty much non-existent most of the day alternating between light and variable and periods of calm. The average wind speed since 7 A.M. has only been around 5 mph. The peak gust, which occurred around 9:40 this morning was only 15 mph. There has not been anything over 10 mph this afternoon so far. The other story is the continued dry conditions. We could really use some rain as our rainfall deficit continues to mount. We've only recorded 0.51" of rain so far in September, this is 1.24 inches below normal to date. For the year our deficit has dropped to 3.45 inches below normal. Moderate to severe drought continues to plague the region. The high so far today is only 63F, 9 degrees below the daily normal max of 72F. The low since midnight is 44F, which is 11 degrees below the normal low of 55F. Today's Observations: 7 A.M.
