BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA FRIDAY, JUNE 19, 2020 ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME WARMTH AND HUMIDITY ROLL ON ATOP GREAT BLUE HILL... We arrived at the hill under mostly cloudy skies and distant fog. Air temperature was already at 70 degrees at 7AM with an overnight low of only 66 degrees. As the morning progressed, the clouds and fog thinned allowing visibility to reach 75 miles by early afternoon. Temperatures have responded to this increasing sunshine - achieving 84 degrees by early afternoon with dew points holding in the mid-60s. Winds remain rather gentle for our location peaking at 21 MPH so far. Great Blue Hill is officially in an abnormally dry pattern. The on-going drought places us at 0.95 inches below the monthly normal, yet nearly 4 inches below the average for the year! There does not appear to be any notable rainmakers over the next several days. Quick fun fact: Today marks the last full day of astronomical spring. At 5:43 EDT tomorrow, summer officially commences for us here in the Northern Hemisphere. This day marks the longest duration of sunlight of the year peaking at 15 hours & 17 minutes locally. It also marks our maximum sun angle at solar noon of 71.0 degrees above the horizon. For comparison, our minimum sun angle at the December winter solstice is 24.1 degrees! The high so far today is 84 degrees, this is 8 degrees above the daily normal high of 76F. The low since midnight is 66F, which is 8 degrees above the daily normal low of 58F. Today's Observations: 7 A.M.
