BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2019 ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME CLOUDY AND BREEZY TODAY WITH INCREASING HUMIDITY... A mostly middle level cloud deck dropped to lower stratocumulus during the day as a cool front approached from the west. After two days with low temperatures in the upper 40s, the dew point began rising today to the middle 50s as of mid-day. The wind has been increasing largely from the south, and the peak gust has reached 31 kts, 36 mph, from the south exactly at 12:00 PM.     The high so far today is 68F, 4 degrees below the daily normal of 72F. The low since midnight is 49F, 6 degrees below the average minimum of 55F. FROM THE HISTORY BOOKS... Today and tomorrow mark the 75th anniversary of the impacts of the Great Atlantic Hurricane in New England on September 14-15, 1944. At Blue Hill, a total of 3.67 inches of rain fell over those two dates. A maximum 5-minute average wind speed of 77 mph was observed from the northeast late on the 14th (with an estimated gust to 96 mph) as the storm made landfall in southern New England as a Category 2 Hurricane. The center passed just east of Blue Hill and Boston as a Category 1 Hurricane during the night. At its peak, this storm had maximum sustained winds of 145 mph (Category 4) and a minimum central pressure of 940 mb as it passed Cape Hatteras. PRELIMINARY STATS FOR AUGUST 2019 TEMPERATURE, Deg.
