BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY SATURDAY, JUNE 29, 2019 ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME THUNDERSTORMS THIS MORNING BRING PERIODS OF SHOWERS... MOSTLY CLOUDY AND VERY MUGGY TODAY WITH MORE  THUNDERSTORMS BUILDING THIS AFTERNOON... Thunderstorms began moving through the area before sunrise this morning. A thunderstorm was in progress during the 7 AM EST observation with the heaviest rain and cloud to ground lightning passing just north and east of the summit. After the early morning showers ended before 8 AM EST, the sky remained mostly cloudy with middle level clouds during the rest of the morning. At 2:30 PM EST, towering cumulus were visible to the west through northwest as another round of thunderstorms were forming and moving east. Distant lightning and thunder were observed through the next hour as thunderstorms passed south and north of the Observatory, but there was no additional rainfall through 4 PM EST. The wind has been generally light today with a peak gust to 21 mph NW at 05:53 AM during the morning thunderstorms. The visibility has been low all day near 30 miles due to the muggy air with the dew point near 70F and haze in all directions. The high so far today is 80F, which is one degree above the daily normal of 79F. The low since midnight is 66F, five degrees above the daily normal minimum of 61F.   After a cloudy and cool spring, the first ripe blueberries were observed in the enclosure yesterday June 28th, which was seven days later than the long term average date of June 21st. This was the latest date on which the first ripe blueberries were observed in the instrument enclosure since June 29th, 1982. Today's Observations: 7 A.M.
