BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY THANKSGIVING DAY, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2013 ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME STORM TOTAL RAINFALL REACHES 2.36 INCHES; ~30 DEGREES COLDER TODAY AND MUCH DRIER WITH BRISK WINDS Rain fell nearly continuously from Tuesday evening to late last night, and it came down heavy at times during this period. The rainfall total reached 2.36 inches of rain. A new daily rainfall record of 2.23 inches was set for November 27, surpassing the previous record of 1.92 inches set in 1898. A very sharp cold front moved through the area yesterday afternoon, passing the summit at approximately 3:45 P.M. EST. There was a very sharp change in wind direction from SSW to WNW that occurred with the frontal passage, and this shift in wind direction occurred over a period of only a couple of minutes. Cold air immediately came in behind the front, and temperatures dropped steadily from near 60F just before the front came through to a low this morning of 27F shortly after 7 A.M. EST. The air is also drying behind the front, with dew point temperatures falling into the low teens this afternoon. Winds began picking up again late yesterday evening and brisk winds continue today, with occasional gusts in the 35-45 mph range. This is dropping wind chill values into the teens.
