BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02186 ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA   DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY MONDAY, JUNE 7, 2010  ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME   SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PASSED TO NORTH OVER THE WEEKEND AND INCLUDED REPORTS OF HIGH WINDS, WIND DAMAGE, DOWNPOURS, AND HAIL... TEMPERATURES FELL RAPIDLY LATE YESTERDAY AFTER A COLD FRONTAL PASSAGE DROPPING FROM 80F SUNDAY AFTERNOON TO 54F BY MIDNIGHT EST AND ON DOWN TO 51F EARLY THIS MORNING...    Tornado watches were issued for both days over the weekend but none were reported in southern New England. However, severe thunderstorms brought damaging wind gusts. Sunday afternoon a peak gust to 68 MPH WSW was recorded at Logan Airport, Boston, at 4:09 PM. What was confirmed as a macroburst associated with a severe thunderstorm moved along an east-northeast track from northern Connecticut all the way to Boston causing widespread wind damage.    Here at Blue Hill a thunderstorm early Saturday morning left only about a tenth of an inch of rain but contained considerable lightning. A few distant rumbles of thunder may have occurred Saturday after- noon but all of the important storm activity remained well to our west through north.  The total rainfall for the day was just 0.16 inch.   On Sunday morning a weak back-door cold front crept in from the northeast with a very light easterly wind flow holding temperatures in the very humid upper 60's until a warm front quickly passed north of here between noon and 1 PM EDT with temperatures jumping into the upper 70's along with increasingly gusty south winds peaking at speeds of 43 to 48 MPH.  The center of a stronger than usual low pressure system for this time of year passed to our north with the lowest pressure of 29.31 inches MSL recorded at 3:46 PM EDT.  This was shortly before a severe thunderstorm passed over Boston with a peak gust of 68 MPH WSW at 4:09 PM EDT.   A few light showers accompanied the late afternoon thunderstorms here with only a total of 0.05 inch. Peak wind gusts reached 40 to 45 MPH W after the passage of the cold front at around 6:30 PM EDT.  Temperatures dropped rapidly from 75F at 5:30 PM to 55F by midnight EDT.    Today's observations:   7 A.M.
