BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02186 ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY SATURDAY, JUNE 5, 2010 ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME WARM AND HUMID WEATHER TODAY...THUNDERSTORMS BRING HEAVY RAIN AND VIVID LIGHTNING TO THE AREA EARLY THIS MORNING...MUCH OF NEW ENGLAND UNDER A TORNADO WATCH THROUGH THIS EVENING... A strong thunderstorm brought a vivid lightning display from 3-4 AM EDT to Boston and much of the surrounding area early this morning. Blue Hill received a total of 0.16 inch in heavy rain showers, much of it falling in a ten minute period from 3:25-3:35 AM EDT. A sudden peak wind gust to 32 mph W was measured at 3:24 AM EDT as the storm approached from the west, then passed mostly to the north of the Observatory. Partial sunshine has raised the temperature into the low 80s today and a southerly wind has helped to push the dew point into the low 70s as of early afternoon. The unstable conditions may generate strong or severe thunderstorms across the area, and the NWS has raised a tornado watch for much of New England through 10 PM EDT today.
