BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02186 ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA   DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY SATURDAY, JUNE 27, 2009    ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME   SUNSHINE RETURNS WITH CUMULUS BUILDING THIS AFTERNOON... SEA BREEZE BEGINS SHORTLY AFTER NOON... A mostly sunny sky today is a welcome departure from the very low sunshine much of this month. Although sunny, it is also moderately humid today with dew points in the low to middle 60s. The solar heating and humidity are generating many moderate cumulus with rain showers occurring further inland. A westerly wind turned light and variable late this morning then shifted to a steady NE sea breeze shortly after noon.  The high temperature for the day of 78 occurred earlier this morning.  A dense fog bank has been visible over the water to the northeast, and this has moved inland a short distance with the sea breeze.    Today's observations:   7 A.M.   Weather: Scattered altocumulus, thin scattered cirrus, few stratocumulus distant SW-NW, hazy Temperature: 66F, Dew point: 64F, Wind: W at 3 kts Sea-level pressure: 29.72 inches Hg, rising Visibility: 25 miles, hazy 6-hour minimum temp: 61F 24-hour rainfall: 0.01 inch BHO SA 1155 100 SCT 250 –SCT 25 066/66/64/2603/972/ SC DSNT SW-NW HAZY WND LGT/ 8/571 51014 70001 10066 20061   10 A.M.   Weather: Scattered cumulus, scattered cirrus, few moderate cumulus distant W-WNW, few stratocumulus NE-ESE, thin fog bank offshore NNE-ENE, hazy Temperature: 76F, Dew point: 60F, Wind: SSW at 3 kts Wind: Light and variable Sea-level pressure: 29.71 inches Hg, falling Visibility: 50 miles, visibility NNE-NE 10, hazy BHO SA 1455 40 SCT 250 SCT 50 061/76/60/2003/971/ FEW MDT CU DSNT W-WNW FEW SC NE-ESE THN FOG BNK OFFSHR NNE-ENE VSBY NNE-NE 10 HAZY WND LGT AND VRB/ 8/201 58005   1 P.M.   Weather: Scattered cumulus congestus, scattered cirrus, few moderate cumulus S-NW, few stratocumulus NE-E, fog bank N-E, hazy Temperature: 73F, Dew point: 64F, Wind: NE at 10 kts Sea-level pressure: 29.71 inches Hg, falling Visibility: 40 miles, visibility NNE-NE 7, hazy 6-hour maximum temp.: 78F BHO SA 1755 35 SCT 250 SCT 40 060/73/64/0410/971/ FEW MDT CU S-NW FEW SC NE-E FOG BNK N-E VSBY NNE-NE 7 HAZY/ 8/201 55001 10078 20066     WEATHER SUMMARY FOR FRIDAY, JUNE 26   TEMPERATURE (DEGREES F) MAX.....79    NORMAL.....78 MIN.....62    NORMAL.....59 MEAN....71    NORMAL.....68   DEPARTURE FROM 30-YEAR NORMAL...........+3 TOTAL DEPARTURE FOR THE MONTH..........-99 [-4.0 DEGREES/DAY]   HEATING DEGREE DAYS TOTAL HEATING UNITS FOR YESTERDAY.............0  DEPARTURE.......-1 TOTAL HEATING UNITS FOR THE MONTH...........110  DEPARTURE......+40 TOTAL HEATING UNITS FOR THE SEASON.........6231  DEPARTURE.....-136 TOTAL HEATING UNITS LAST SEASON TO DATE....5942  DIFFERENCE....+289   PEAK GUST AND AVERAGE WIND SPEED (MPH) PEAK WIND GUST FOR YESTERDAY.............30 WSW AT 12:43 P.M. *                    AEROVANE..............29 WSW AT 12:43 P.M.                    ASOS..................29 W   AT 12:43 P.M.                    DAVIS.................N/A FASTEST MILE FOR YESTERDAY...............23 WSW AT 12:43 P.M. * MAXIMUM 2-MINUTE ASOS AVERAGE............22 W   AT 12:43 P.M.     MAXIMUM 2-MINUTE DAVIS AVERAGE...........N/A    AVERAGE WIND SPEED AND DIRECTION.......10.4 SSW                    ASOS.................9.7                    DAVIS.................N/A * last of several occurrences....   PRECIPITATION (INCHES) THROUGH THIS MORNING (EST) TOTAL PRECIPITATION 24 HRS ENDING 7 A.M....0.01  DEPARTURE....-0.12                          ASOS..............0.00 TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR  JUNE..............4.38  DEPARTURE....+0.97                          ASOS..............4.35  TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR THE YEAR..........22.88  DEPARTURE....-2.27                          ASOS.............23.90    PRELIMINARY CLIMATE SUMMARY FOR JUNE 2009 CALENDAR DAY DATA DATA REPORTED: DATE: MAX/MIN/MEAN/DEP/PRECIP/SUN(MIN.)/SUN(%)/ PEAK GUST/AERO GUST AERO: Aerovane wind recording system gust when significant TSTM: Thunderstorm day (thunder heard some time during day) ....: Data not yet available, records not finalized   6/1  69/41/55/-7/0/706/78          29 SSW    AERO 25 MPH SSW 6/2  76/53/65/+3/T/525/58          28 S      AERO 24 MPH S 6/3  69/54/62/0/T/254/28           23 SSW     6/4  73/53/63/0/0/327/36           22 SSE     6/5  64/51/58/-5/0.05/000/00       21 NE 6/6  73/51/62/-1/0.01/428/47       25 SSE 6/7  79/56/68/+4/0/583/64          28 W      AERO 24 MPH W 6/8  73/57/65/+1/0/529/58          18 ENE 6/9  59/51/55/-9/0.10/000/00       27 E 6/10 59/52/56/-8/0.00/000/00       21 NE     6/11 57/52/55/-10/0.17/000/00      23 NNE    AERO 21 MPH NE 6/12 70/53/62/-3/0.43/119/13       30 SSE    AERO 29 MPH SSE 6/13 75/59/67/+2/T/796/87          23 NNE 6/14 63/54/59/-6/0.34/101/11       20 E 6/15 60/52/56/-10/0.06/027/03      20 NE 6/16 64/51/58/-8/T/568/62          22 NNE   6/17 74/50/62/-4/0/807/88          28 S      AERO 24 MPH S 6/18 65/52/59/-7/0.44/000/00       35 ESE 6/19 70/61/66/-1/0.47/000/00       33 SE     AERO 31 MPH SE 6/20 76/60/68/+1/0/266/29          21 NNE 6/21 61/57/59/-8/0.55/000/00       44 N      AERO 42 MPH N 6/22 60/58/59/-8/1.26/000/00       42 NNE    AERO 39 MPH NNE  6/23 64/57/61/-7/0.33/000/00       38 N      AERO 33 MPH N 6/24 62/55/59/-9/0.12/000/00       27 N      6/25 74/58/66/-2/0.02/.../..       21 SSW   6/26 79/62/71/+3/0.03/.../..       30 WSW   6/27 morning low temp: 61F; the normal low is now 59F   NEW DAILY RECORDS FOR JUNE 2009 TO DATE...
