BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02186 ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA   DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY TUESDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2007 ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME   TEMPERATURES ARE WAY UP AND WINDS WAY DOWN!   MONTH OF OCTOBER 10 DEGREES WARMER THAN NORMAL TO DATE ALSO INCLUDES AN UNUSUAL STRETCH OF LOW WIND SPEED DAYS   Not only has October been unusually warm to date averaging 10 degrees above normal in temperature for the first eight days but its has been unusually calm in terms of wind. The first eight days have averaged only 8.2 MPH with a daily range from 6.4 to 9.3 MPH!  That's low for any time of year here at the summit of Blue Hill but especially so for October when we expect the usual seasonal increase in wind speeds.   Yesterday's gloomy, foggy and cool weather included a long overdue substantial rainfall of over one half inch but the month continues one half inch drier than normal and the year more than 5 inches down from the normal to date.    Today's observations:   7 A.M.   Weather: Thin broken high clouds  Temperature: 52F, Dew point: 45F, Wind: N at 12G19 kts Wind: Variability NNW-NNE Sea-level pressure: 29.90 inches Hg, rising Visibility: 50 miles     6-hour min temp: 50F 6-hour precip: 0.08 inch 24-hour precipitation: 0.21 inch  BHO SA 1155 130 SCT 150 SCT 250 –BKN 300 –BKN 50 126/52/45/3612G19/990/ FEW SC DSNT NNE-SSE FEW ACC DSNT S-SW FEW ACSL W VSBY WNW 45 WND 33V03/ 8/581 51022 ASOS 60007 MANUAL 6008/ ASOS 70021 MANUAL 70021 10052 20050   10 A.M.   Weather: Scattered stratocumulus clouds, broken cirrocumulus, cirrus Temperature: 57F, Dew point: 44F, Wind: NNW at 07 kts Wind: Variability N-E  Sea-level pressure: 29.95 inches Hg, falling Visibility: 60 miles  BHO SA 1455 27 SCT 220 BKN 250 BKN 60 141/57/44/0414G21/995/ CC ALQDS WND 35V08/ 8/509 50015   1 P.M.   Weather: High thin overcast cirrus clouds, few stratocumulus  Temperature: 58F, Dew point: 45F Wind: NE at 11 kts Wind: Variablilty NNE-E  Sea-level pressure: 29.93 inches Hg, falling Visibility: 55 miles  BHO SA 1755 250 –BKN 300 –OVC 55 135/58/45/0511/993/ BINOVC FEW SC ALQDS FEW CC LGT DSNT HZ WIND 02V08/ 8/501 58006 10059 20052     WEATHER SUMMARY FOR MONDAY, OCTOBER 8   TEMPERATURE (DEGREES F) MAX.....58    NORMAL.....63 MIN.....52    NORMAL.....45 MEAN....55    NORMAL.....54 DEPARTURE FROM 30-YEAR NORMAL.........+ 1 TOTAL DEPARTURE FOR THE MONTH.........+81 [+9.9 DEGREES/DAY]   PEAK GUST AND AVERAGE WIND SPEED (MPH) PEAK WIND GUST FOR YESTERDAY..............21  S  AT 6:49 A.M.                          AEROVANE.............. 21  S  AT 6:49 A.M.                          ASOS...................20  S  AT 6:49 A.M.                          DAVIS..................20  S  AT 7:17 A.M.        FASTEST MILE FOR YESTERDAY................14  S  AT 7:11 A.M. *              MAXIMUM 2-MINUTE ASOS AVERAGE.............15 SSW AT 7:13 A.M.         MAXIMUM 2-MINUTE DAVIS AVERAGE............16 S   AT 2:49 A.M.
