BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02186 ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA   DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2007 ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME   THREE QUARTERS OF AN INCH OF RAINFALL YESTERDAY NOVEMBER TEMPERATURES RUNNING CLOSE TO NORMAL TO DATE   Yesterday's rainfall, which included a downpour bringing 0.44 inch in a 60-minute period ending just after 11 a.m., totaled 0.75 inch.  This brings the November total to 1.70 inches or 0.80 inch above normal for the month to date.   Black ice was observed on the tower roof boards this morning after the moisture from yesterday's rainfall failed to dry up overnight allowing the ice to form even though our low temperature was 33 degrees in the instrument shelter.    Temperatures yesterday, including maximum and minimum, were exactly on the normals for the date. So far this month has not shown any definitive trend to above or below normal temperatures. The month is averaging just a fraction of a degree above normal to date.    Today's observations:   7 A.M.   Weather:  Clear, few distant stratocumulus clouds, SE-S and W-NW Temperature: 34F, Dew point: 29F, Wind: SW at 12 kts Sea-level pressure: 29.89 inches Hg, rising Visibility: 50 miles 6-hour min temp: 33F 24-hour precipitation: 0.75 inch BHO SA 1155 CLR 50 123/34/29/2212/989/ FEW SC DSNT SE-S AND DSNT W-NW LGT HZ/ 8/500 51018 MANUAL 70075 ASOS 70077 10036 20033   10 A.M.   Weather: Clear, stratocumulus forming distant WSW-N  Temperature: 43F, Dew point: 31F, Wind: W at 10G21 kts Wind: Gradually veering and variable WSW-WNW   Sea-level pressure: 29.95 inches Hg, rising  Visibility: 65 miles    BHO SA 1455 CLR 65 141/43/31/2710G21/995/ SC FRMG DSNT WSW-N WND GRDLY VEERING WND 24V30/ 8/500 51018   1 P.M.   Weather: Scattered stratocumulus clouds  Temperature: 48F, Dew point: 29F, Wind: W at 16G22 kts Wind: Variability in direction, SW to WNW Sea-level pressure: 29.96 inches Hg, steady Visibility: 75 miles  6-hourly max. temp: 50F  BHO SA 1755 40 SCT 75 145/48/29/2616G22/996/ WND 23V30/ 8/500 51004 10050 20034    WEATHER SUMMARY FOR TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6   TEMPERATURE (DEGREES F) MAX.....53    NORMAL.....53 MIN.....37    NORMAL.....37 MEAN....45    NORMAL.....45 DEPARTURE FROM 30-YEAR NORMAL........... 0 TOTAL DEPARTURE FOR THE MONTH...........+5 [+0.6 DEGREES/DAY][corrected]     PEAK GUST AND AVERAGE WIND SPEED (MPH) PEAK WIND GUST FOR YESTERDAY............35 SSE AT 9:48 A.M.                    AEROVANE.............35 SSE AT 9:48 A.M.                     ASOS.................35 SSE AT 9:49 A.M.                      DAVIS................35 SSE AT 7:53 A.M.  FASTEST MILE FOR YESTERDAY..............25 SE  AT 9:48 A.M. * MAXIMUM 2-MINUTE ASOS AVERAGE...........23 SE  AT 9:49 A.M.            MAXIMUM 2-MINUTE DAVIS AVERAGE..........26 SE  AT 7:47 A.M.          AVERAGE WIND SPEED AND DIRECTION......14.9 SE                     ASOS...............13.8                       DAVIS..............15.7 S [170 deg] * last of several occurrences...   PRECIPITATION (INCHES) THROUGH THIS MORNING (EST) TOTAL PRECIPITATION 24 HRS ENDING 7 A.M....0.75  DEPARTURE.....+0.60                          ASOS..............0.77 TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR NOVEMBER...........1.70  DEPARTURE.....+0.80                          ASOS..............1.71    TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR THE YEAR..........37.24  DEPARTURE.....-5.68                          ASOS.............36.54     PRELIMINARY CLIMATE SUMMARY FOR NOVEMBER 2007...CALENDAR DAY DATA DATA REPORTED: DATE: MAX/MIN/MEAN/DEP/PRECIP/SUN(MIN.)/SUN(%)/ PEAK GUST/AERO GUST   AERO: Aerovane recording wind system when significant TSTM: Thunderstorm day ....: Data not yet available   11/1  66/42/54/+7/0/050/08     37 S 11/2  50/37/44/-2/0/446/73     29 NE 11/3  46/40/43/-3/0.95/000/00  51 N   Aero 50 MPH NNW  11/4  54/37/46/0/0/503/82      33 W   Aero 33 MPH W    11/5  56/40/48/+3/0/483/79     29 SE  Aero 29 MPH SE 11/6  53/37/45/0/0.75/000/00   35 SSE Aero 35 MPH SSE         11/7  morning low temp. 33F; the normal low is now 37F   NEW DAILY RECORDS FOR NOVEMBER 2007:   None to date.   DAILY EXTREMES Temperature and precipitation records back to 1885, and wind records back to 1940 (e = estimated):   RECORDS FOR NOVEMBER 7 HIGH 75 IN 1938 LOW 21 IN 1930 PRECIP 2.02 INCHES IN 1953 SNOWFALL 1.0 IN 1967 PEAK GUST 69e ENE IN 1953   RECORDS FOR NOVEMBER 8 HIGH 72 IN 1938 LOW 20 IN 1921 PRECIP 2.24 INCHES IN 1972 SNOWFALL 4.0 IN 1894 PEAK GUST 72e SE IN 1947   TODAY'S REPORT PREPARED By: Robert Skilling
