"BACK DOOR" COLD FRONT PASSAGE EARLY THIS MORNING
TWO DAYS OF 87-DEGREE HEAT, JUNE 1-2, NO RECORDS SET
THUNDERSTORMS BRING ONLY VERY SMALL AMOUNTS OF RAINFALL
 
  The passage of a "back door" type cold front (from the 
northeast early today ended unusually warm temperatures 
for very early June. A temperature of 68 degees very early
today had dropped to 57 degrees before 9 a.m. EDT. A boom
of thunder was heard to the south just after 8 a.m. EDT 
from a line of showers and thunderstorms that were occurring 
along an east-west line about 20 miles to our south. 
   High temperatures reached 87 degrees on the past two days 
falling only a few days short of the records of 90 and 91 
degrees for June 1 and 2 respectively. 
   Thunderstorms were recorded during both of the two past 
late afternoons but rainfall amounts were small including 
0.12 inch on June 1st and just 0.02 inch yesterday. A thunder-
storm gust to 45 MPH NW was recorded on June 1st but no signif-
icant wind occurred with two thunderstorms late yesterday 
afternoon.
