BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02186 ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA   DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY TUESDAY, AUGUST 28, 2007   ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME   EARLY MORNING INVERSION BRINGS 15-DEGREE TEMP. DIFFERENCE SUMMER PRECIPITATION TOTAL NEAR 5 INCHES BELOW NORMAL EFFECTS OF DRY WEATHER SEEN IN YELLOWING OF LEAVES   The low temperature at the summit this morning was 64 degrees while the minimum at Norwood Airport was 49 degrees, a 15-degree difference, a phenomonen often observed when a large high pressure system with dry air is centered over New England.   The summer precipitation total is now 6.82 inches or close to five inches below the average for the three months of June, July and August.  This total represents only 58% of normal but if the rainfall which fell very early in June is discounted we have just 45% of average, June 6-August 27.     The effects of the especially dry weather this month with less than 20% of normal August rainfall is causing many yellow leaves to develop on trees around the summit and in general around this area.     Our August rainfall continues at only 0.62 inch, far below the normal of 4.06 inches.  The month could slide into second place in the ranking of driest Augusts. Driest Augusts (inches)   1) 0.53 in 1981 2) 0.91 in 1984 3) 1.05 in 1910   Today's observations:   7 A.M.   Weather: Clear, few altocumulus, few cirrus W-N  Temperature: 69F, Dew point: 59F, Wind: NNW at 07 kts Sea-level pressure: 30.22 inches Hg, rising Visibility: 25 miles, hazy, 35 above inversion WNW  6-hour min temp: 64F 24-hour rainfall: 0.00 BHO SA 1155 CLR 25 232/69/59/3307/022/ FEW AC ALQDS LINE OF ACC XTDNG E-SSE FEW CI W-N INVSN DSSPTNG THN K LYR ALG HRZN N-NE VSBY WNW 35 ABV INVSN HAZY ALQDS/ 8/081 52010 10069 20064   10 A.M.   Weather: Clear, cumulus forming WSW-NNW, few cirrus Temperature: 78F, Dew point: 56F, Wind: NNE at 07 kts Wind: variability NNW-E Sea-level pressure: 30.21 inches Hg, steady Visibility: 35 miles, NW-N 25 miles, smoke layer   BHO SA 1450 CLR 35 230/78/56/0307/021/ CU FRMG WSW-NNW FEW MDT TOPS FEW CI K LYR SFC/ALF NW-N AND THN K LYR ALG HRZN N-NNE VSBY NW-N 25 WND 34V08/ 8/201 58002   1 P.M.   Weather: Scattered cumulus and cirrus clouds  Temperature: 82F, Dew point: 52F, Wind: NNE at 09 kts Wind: variability NNW-ENE Sea-level pressure: 30.17 inches Hg, falling Visibility: 50 miles    6-hour max. temp: 83 deg.
