PLEASE VISIT OUR WEB SITE AT: http://www.bluehill.org/ The next meeting of the Blue Hill Observatory Weather Club is scheduled for April 12, 2001. Our speaker will be Christine Clayburg of Channel 7 in Boston. Location of meeting to be announced. All of our daily March data to date is included on this page below.... ATTN: CONTRACTORS AND SNOWPLOW OPERATORS..... Please DO NOT USE our 23 inches for the March 5-7 Nor'easter snowfall recorded here at the summit of Blue Hill for billing your customers! This is a maximum amount and very localized amount because of our elevation of 600 feet above sea level. Please check out the National Weather Service, Boston, homepage and click under "storm totals" for a list of accurate snowfall totals from many towns and cities throughout the area. Please go to: www.nws.noaa.gov/er/box DAILY DISCUSSION....1 P.M. 3/8/2001 LOOK OUT BELOW! Finally, Monday's ice that built up to one half to three quarters inch thick is melting rapidly and breaking off in pieces that are crashing down from the radio tower next door and from our tower. All of it will be gone this afternoon. All wind systems are returning to normal operation after a 48-hour outage. Somehow we'll manage to estimate hourly speeds and gusts, etc. during this period. There's still 19 inches of snow on the ground here at the summit this morning from the 23.0 inches for the storm. Our total melted amount was an incredibly heavy 3.64 inches. Temperature have remained below normal since starting February 28 and the month of March is averaging more than six degrees colder than normal. Our precipitation for the month is already 3.75 inches. Normal for the entire month would be 4.41 inches. February snowfall now 25.0 inches. The seasonal total has reached over 70 inches.. The normal for an entire season is near 60 inches.
