DAILY DISCUSSION....10 A.M. 2/11/2001 Strong and gusty WNW continue today, though not nearly as strong as on Saturday. Peak gusts to 43 mph WNW and NW have been recorded through 10 a.m. on Aerovane. ASOS had 39 MPH WNW early this morning and 38 MPH NW just before 10 a.m. A peak 2-minute wind of 29 MPH WNW was recorded shortly before 10 a.m. Windchill temperatures have been as low as 25 to 30 below zero this morning. The total snow depth on the ground is now becoming quite variable here on the summit. The are many bare spots and places where the snow is up to a foot deep. So, the best we could do this morning was come up with an average of 7 inches and that's down from 12 inches yesterday. The peak wind gusts for Saturday, February 10... Aerovane 69 MPH W at 10:47 a.m. NWS 420C 64 MPH W at 10:47 a.m. (observed on dial) ASOS 61 MPH W at 10:47 a.m. Our official peak will be reported as 64 MPH W and surpassed the previous record for the date of 63 MPH NNW in 1969; this on a record back to 1940.
