Snow which began about mid-evening last night accumulated to around 2.5 to 3 inches by midnight with a total of 7.3 inches on the snow boards at 7 a.m. this morning. I made other measurements too. Elevation was an important factor between the base and summit. A the base of the hill at the road gate about 4 to 4.5 inches was measured on a wooden fence through about 6:15 a.m.; road surface at the summit 4 to 5 inches. Four wheel drive was a definite necessity to make the trip up this morning. It's a "winter-wonderland" up here this morning as snow stuck heavily to trees, fences etc. The temperature was 35 degrees before snow began last evening then dropped quickly to 31 and then down to 30 before midnight before starting to rise by 1 a.m. The highest temperature since midnight has been 32 through 7 a.m. Wind has not been a factor in this snowfall event with the peak gusts just over 20 mph from the ENE early this morning. The peak gust as recorded by Aerovane has been 24 MPH ENE at 2:56 a.m. this morning. ASOS recorded a peak of 22 MPH at the same time. The snowfall total had reached 7.5 inches shortly before 7:30 a.m. and was then reported to NWS, Taunton.
