How many people will know what hurricane or tropical storm that was? It was Tropical Storm DORIA that did this to us....it hit the coast of North Carolina as a tropical storm and was never a hurricane after forming hundreds of miles east of the Windward Islands on August 20th. The center traveled across northwest CT and western MA into NH and was on the CT-NY border at 8 a.m. The highest winds included an hourly average of 51 mph sse AND the 87 MPH SSE gust later that morning.
