DAILY DISCUSSION....2 P.M. 4/16/2001 APRIL TEMPERATURE NOW AVERAGING SLIGHTLY MILDER THAN NORMAL... GREAT WEATHER FOR EASTER WEEK-END...VERY SUNNY AND DRY TEMPERATURES SLIGHTLY MILDER THAN NORMAL EACH DAY... VERY VERY DRY AIR ON SATURDAY...RELATIVE DROPS TO 13% VERY WINDY WITH GUSTS OVER 50 MPH ON SATURDAY AND 38 MPH ON SUNDAY.. The cooler-than-normal temperature trend of early April has been erased by mid-month. Cooler than normal temperatures are forecast but we'll see if that will be enough to turn the month around again to below normal. It's certainly been drier than normal with but 1.24 inches through the 15th as compared to a normal of 2.10 inches. That's only 59% of normal rainfall. All but one day during the past week has averaged slightly warmer than normal and thus the month of April has turned around and is now averaging about a half a degree milder than normal. The weather has been ideal for the Easter week-end with bright sunny skies and cool but slightly milder-than-normal temperatures. Highs on both Saturday and Sunday were 59 degrees here at the Observatory. The big weather story was the very low humidity on Saturday which plunged down to 13% at 5 p.m. That's the lowest by far here for a long, long time. The temperature was 57 with a dewpoint of 07 at that time. Back at 1 p.m. we had manually recorded 16% rh so we know that ASOS was correct in reporting that 13% at 5 p.m. Even on Easter Sunday it was again very dry with a minimum relative humidity down to 18%. It was very windy on Saturday with peak gusts up to 57 mph as recorded by Maximim, Inc. Merlin and 53 mph on Aerovane. The NWS 420C (which has now been repaired thanks to Dave Doe) had 46 MPH and ASOS came in with 45 MPH. All of those gusts were from the northwest. Even on Sunday afternoon peak gusts reached 43 MPH NW on Merlin and 38 MPH several times on Aerovane. Meanwhile, the official gust of 37 MPH NW was recorded by 420C and 35 MPH NW was recorded on ASOS.
