The pond is considered thawed when there is less than 1/10 ice coverage. The average date for thawing of this pond is March 16. Last year it thawed on March 8. The last time it thawed later than this year was in 1994 when the date was April 5. The record latest thawing date is April 8, 1993 since modern records began in 1960. The monthly precipitation total for the month was 13.07 inches, which sets a new record for March. The previous wettest March was 10.96 inches in 1968. March 2001 also becomes the 4th wettest month for any month on our entire record here at Blue Hill. The wettest months were 8/1955 (18.78"), 6/1998 (17.32"), and 6/1982 (13.73"). The snowfall for the month of 41.4 inches makes March the 3rd snowiest on record surpassed only by 52.0 inches in 1956 and 42.2 inches in 1916. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH ONLY 50 DEGREES... It's a FIVE way tie!! The record lowest March maximum temperature is 50 degrees set in 1887, 1916, 1941, 1956, and 2001...also please not that all three snowiest Marches are on this list. THE MARCH 2000 STATISTICS....
