EDT on Monday. The rain was very heavy, with about 1 inch coming down in 15 minutes. The rainfall total from yesterday's thunderstorm and an early Tuesday morning shower reached 1.30 inches. Monday's storm also produced a peak wind gust of 45 mph (official) on the summit, with some of our wind systems recording a gust up to 56 mph. Also, the temperature dropped about 17-18 degrees in about 15-20 minutes in association with the storm. Conditions today are cooler than yesterday, with the afternoon high about 10 degrees cooler today compared to Monday. The air mass is slightly more humid today, with dew point temperatures in the lower 60s. Thunderstorms are approaching the summit this afternoon, with only distant thunder thus far through 3 P.M. EDT. Monday's heavy downpour and an early morning rain shower this morning have cemented June 2013 into 5th place for wettest Junes on record. Only about a quarter inch of rain is needed to move into 4th place.
