Open House at Blue Hill Observatory
Saturday, June 1st from 10 to 4
Open House at BHO is certainly one of the highlights of the year. This Saturday is forecast to be sunny and warm. Here are some of the activities that we have planned:
  • Meet CBS4 Meteorologist Joe Joyce and view the new Mobile Weather Lab from 11 to 2 p.m.
  • Meet NECN  Meteorologist Tim Kelley and hear about Blue Hill Observatory's new Prudential Towercams.
  • Tour the Observatory for no charge and enjoy the spectacular views in every direction from the tower.
  • Bring your children for kite making (10:30-3:30 $5) and kite flying; Easy Breezy Craft activities with DCR Rangers and volunteers; tagged balloon releases (10:30-3:30 $1.50); Volcanoes and their effect on weather - a special WINS presentation (10:30-3);
    Picture Post and Citizen Science using Phenology (11:15-2:15)

     and fun activities with staff from Mt. Washington  Observatory.

  • Hear about the latest weather watching programs at Mt. Washington Observatory (11:30).
  • Talk with Women in Natural Science Student (WINS) and visit their exhibits.

Enjoy a leisurely hike up the Red Dot trail from the South Parking Lot adjacent to the Trailside Museum or take the shuttle that leaves from South Lot (near the ski area) every 20 minutes beginning at approximately 9:30 and running until 4 p.m.
