BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY FRIDAY, APRIL 8, 2016  ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME HEAVY RAIN THURSDAY BRINGS 1.41 INCHES OF NEW PRECIP TO GREAT BLUE HILL- SHOWERS AND BRIEF PERIOD OF SMALL HAIL TODAY Rain fell nearly continuously and heavily for several hours on Thursday, totaling 1.41 inches of new precipitation. Precip now sits 2.04 inches above normal for the month so far, and 0.62 inches above normal for the year. Overnight temperatures stayed warmer than normal, dipping  to a low this morning of 42F, some 7 degrees above normal. Yesterday's average daily temperature of 49F also represented the first warmer than normal day since the 2nd of the month. Periodic rain showers were observed through late morning to early afternoon today. Briefly, from 11:20 AM EST to 11:24 AM EST light rain showers and small hail fell from a cumulonimbus overhead, dropping hail less than a quarter inch in diameter. By the 1:00 PM EST observation showers and vertically stunted cumulonimbus were noted in nearly every part of the sky reducing visibility drastically in several areas.
