BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY MONDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2015 ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME RELENTLESS SNOW FALLS HEAVILY FROM EARLY MORNING THROUGH EARLY AFTERNOON. NEW STORM TOTAL OF 22.6 INCHES BY 1:00 PM EST OBSERVATION. RECORDS BROKEN ONCE MORE. Snow which fell nearly continuously yesterday, continued overnight, becoming heavy by 8:00 AM EST. Steady winds have drifted snow on the summit, which had an apparent average snow depth of 37 inches by the 1:00 PM EST observation, though many areas have drifted much higher. With storm after storm pounding the area, Blue Hill Observatory has unofficially broken a record through today's 1:00 PM snowfall measurement for the snowiest January and February on record. With January's total of 42.9 inches and February's of 42.6, as of 1:00 PM with moderate to heavy snow still falling and plenty of days left in the month, 85.5 inches of snow beats out the previous record of 77.9 inches set in 1948. BHO Snowiest January-February, inches (1886-2014) 1) 77.9 in 1948 2) 70.2 in 2005 3) 68.7 in 1904 4) 67.5 in 1920 5) 66.9 in 1994 Additionally, with 42.6 inches of snow so far for February, we have moved into 4th place with more snow on the way. This total is still 22.8 inches away from the all time snowiest month on record at Blue Hill, of February 1969. BHO Snowiest Februarys, inches (1885-2014) 1) 65.4 in 1969 2) 51.3 in 2003 3) 45.2 in 1967 4) 40.4 in 1920 5) 39.7 in 2013 6) 37.0 in 1893 7) 36.0 in 1899 8) 34.7 in 1926 34.7 in 1934 10) 34.4 in 1940 Today's Observations: 7 A.M.
