BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2012 ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME SECOND SNOWFALL OF NOVEMBER AND THE SEASON NOVEMBER 27 ACCUMULATION 2.0 INCHES WITH 0.19 INCH MELTED The snow which began around 8 A.M. Tuesday morning amounted to 2.0 inches by midnight and a trace for today with some intermittent very light snow still occurring as of 7 A.M. The scene here at the summit is one of a "winter-wonderland" with snow all stuck to trees and accumulated on wood and grassy surfaces but with very little on gravel, rocky and asphalt surfaces. There was a nice and easy measurement of 2.0 inches on all snow boards. There is not even a trace of snow at the base of the hill and it's quite scene to see that we're almost the only place here at the summit with snow all stuck to trees while all around us below the summit the trees are completely bare of any snow. However, to our east snow can be seen on other hills in the Blue Hill range. Yesterday's snowfall of 2.0 inches did not come close to the record for the date of 16.0 inches in 1898 which is easily the greatest daily snowfall record for the month of November. UNUSUALLY DRY NOVEMBER CONTINUES This unusually dry November continues with no measurable precipitation from November 13-26. The monthly total of 1.68 inches is only 35% of the normal for this month. RECENT DRY NOVEMBERS (PAST 66 YEARS) 1. 1976 0.55 IN. (DRIEST ON RECORD) 2. 1946 0.98 IN. 3 2001 1.10 INS. 4. 1984 1.59 INS. 5. 2012 1.68 INS. (thru November 27) Looking at the entire period of record, November 2012 will not be among the ten driest on record. It is currently running 14th driest with two days remaining in the month.
