BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY FRIDAY, JUNE 15, 2012 ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME TEMPERATURES REMAIN COOL DESPITE ABUNDANT SUNSHINE It was certainly a cool, refreshing start to the day with low temperatures generally 5-15 degrees or so below normal across the area. Overnight, relatively calm winds and clear skies aided with radiational cooling and the development of a temperature inversion. The low temperature of 54F on the summit was outdone by a number of cool-condition-favored lower elevation stations: Hingham bottomed out at 47F, and Norwood and Taunton both dipped down to 43F! The cool conditions are persisting with a cool air mass arriving on quite persistent winds from the N-NE. The sky has been mostly sunny today with only scattered afternoon cumulus developing. Despite the ample, bright sunshine temperatures are running a few degrees below normal. This afternoon, the high temperature on the summit is struggling, unsuccessfully, to reach the 70F mark. The high thus far for the day is 68F. Today's cool conditions are contributing further to our negative monthly temperature departure which is 3.7 degrees at this point. Today's observations: 7 A.M.
