BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA   DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY MONDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2011 HALLOWEEN DAY ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME   WEEKEND NORTHEASTER WAS AN HISTORIC OCTOBER SNOWFALL EVENT ACROSS A HALF DOZEN STATES IN NORTHEAST U.S. SNOWIEST OCTOBER AND 4TH WETTEST OCTOBER IN 2011 THREE DAILY RECORDS BROKEN  NEW RECORD OCTOBER SNOWFALL TOTAL SET WHITE HALLOWEEN!   The weekend northeaster, which spanned two dates  (the 29th and 30th) and brought snowfall totals of 20 to 32 inches to the highest elevations in western Massachusetts, caused widespread and long lasting power outages from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York to southern New England. High winds caused widespread power losses on Cape Cod.   SNOWSTORM BROUGHT 6 INCHES TO THE SUMMIT... Here at Blue Hill a number of branches were broken off trees as viewed from along the road to the summit.  The October 2011 snowfall total of 8.5 inches breaks the previous record of 6.8 inches in 1979. Three daily records were set in the last few days including the 2.5 inches on the 27th and new daily records for October 29th and 30th with amounts yet to be finalized. In addition, 9.96 inches of precipitation for the month places the month 4th wettest on our list of wettest Octobers.
