BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY  MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA   DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY THURSDAY, JULY 14, 2011   ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME   THUNDERSTORMS YESTERDAY AND EARLY THIS MORNING BRING DOWNPOURS OF RAIN TOTALING 1.10 INCHES   A late afternoon thunderstorm yesterday brought a downpour of rain amounting to 0.51 inch in 20 minutes ending at 4:56 p.m. and 0.68 inch in 45 minutes ending at 5:25 p.m.  The maximum precipitation in 60 minutes was 0.69 inch in the hour ending at 5:25 p.m.  The total for the calendar day was 0.73 inch.  Early this morning more thunderstorm activity brought a couple more hours of moderate to heavy showery rainfall totaling 0.35 inch.  There were no significant wind gusts or cloud to ground lightning but rather considerable lightning in cloud and cloud to cloud. Temperatures cooled quickly with the rainfall yesterday from an afternoon high of 85F all the way down to 61F by midnight EST and on down to 58F early this morning.   Today's observations:   7 A.M.   Weather: Thin scattered cirrus layer N-ESE.
