BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORYMILTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02186ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARYWEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2008ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME SNOW CHANGED TO LIGHT FREEZING RAIN AFTER 3.0 INCHES A total of 3.0 inches of snow covered by a thin glaze (crust)was measured at 7 a.m. An estimated 2 inches had fallen bymidnight after snow began about 7:30 p.m. A brief mixture ofsleet likely occurred between 1 and 2 a.m. before lightfreezing rain began as temperatures rose from 22 degrees at1 a.m. to 33 degrees at 7 a.m. Precipation ended by 6 a.m.as light freezing rain. The glaze accumulation was small andnot enough to measure. ASOS WIND AND PRECIPITATION ERROS FOR SEVERAL HOURS THIS MORNING Icing on the ASOS sonic wind sensors caused erroneous wind readingsto begin before 3 a.m. and then the system was shut down and data waslost. In addition, extremely erroneous hourly melted precipitationdata was reported between midnight and 3 a.m. and the correct datafor those hours in completely lost! Precipitation appeared to resumenormal reporting between 3 and 4 a.m. and wind data returned tonormal as temperatures rose above freezing between 7 and 8 a.m. WINDS GUSTS OVER 50 MPH S-SSE DURING NOON HOUR TODAY Wind increased rapidly as we broke into the warm air late thismorning. Temperatures reached 50 degrees while, for a time,the temperatures at the base of the hill we still in the middle30's late this morning! Precipitation totaled 1.06 inches forboth last evening's snowfall and today's rainfall as of 1 p.m.this afternoon.
