LARGEST HOURLY TOTAL 0.87 INCH FROM 9-10 AM EDT... GREATEST RAINFALL RATE IS NEARLY 2.5 INCHES PER HOUR... Light rain began shortly after 7 AM EDT this morning, and this became heavy rain by 8:30 AM. The heavy rain lasted until 10 AM, with the heaviest occuring from 9:15 to 9:25 AM. The storm total was 1.38 inches in our standard rain gage, and the precipitation ended as very light drizzle at 1:30 PM EDT. The heaviest 10 minute period brought about 0.28 inch. Several 0.01 inch amounts were measured in 15-17 seconds, which is a rainfall rate of more than 2 inches per hour. Our new automated ASOS rain gage read somewhat higher than our manual amount.
