SOUTHWEST AND SOUTH-SOUTHWEST WINDS GUSTING TO 47 mph EARLY THIS AFTERNOON.. MILDER THAN NORMAL MONTH OF FEBRUARY CONTINUES ON....+1 THRU SUNDAY Strong and gusty south-southwest to southwest are bringing mild temperatures our way today. Starting out from an overnight low of 19 degrees before midnight, the thermometer has soared to 40 degrees early this afternoon. This comes after the coldest day in Feburary to date yesterday with a high of only 24 degrees both at midnight and again during the afternoon. A morning low of 11.5 degrees occurred well after just after sunrise at 8:10 a.m. The mean of 18 degrees bested a 20 degree mean temperature on February 1st and was nine degrees colder than normal. The month is averaging one degrees milder than normal with only two of eight days having below normal temperatures. Over the week-end a bout of freezing rain Friday afternoon and evening and lasting into Saturday morning made things very icy up here with almost 1/2 inch of glaze observed on the wires and masts on the tower. Glaze covered the trees and road making walking very difficult and making driving up our access road very risky. The final precipitation total for the Friday-Saturday event was 1.20 inches for the standard gage while ASOS collected 1.10 inches. Snowfall was on the light side once again as it has been since early December. Our total this time was 2.3 inches recorded at noon on Friday.
