BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY, MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02186 FRIDAY AUGUST 16 2002 DAILY DISCUSSION...8/16/2002 For the month of August at the Observatory, 9 of the 15 days have had a high temperature of 90 degrees or greater and have pushed our departure for the month to +141 degrees. That boils down to each day averaging almost 10 degrees above normal! With these warm temperatures and no precipitation, this poses a huge threat of fire for the area. We have experienced the threat of fire here at the hill as one of the ski slopes caught fire earlier in the week. At observation time this morning, we noticed a few scattered sprinkles in the area but no measurable precipitation. These sprinkles were a product of the cloudy and murky skies that dominated much of the morning. Finally, at about 11:00 A.M. the clouds began to break and visibility increased to about 10 miles. In the next few days we can expect more warm weather with little chance of precipitation. However, as the weekend comes to a close, cooler weather will finally make its way into the area.
