DAILY DISCUSSION...8/12/2002

Another round of hot and humid weather has entered our area. At 12:30 P.M.
we reached 90 degrees and our high yesterday of 93 was the third highest
temperature of the season and our 14th 90+ degree day of the year. The
normal amount of 90 degree days here at the Observatory is only 6 for the
year to date. We have more than doubled our average 90 degree days to date.

Our sunshine is also well above normal. The highest recorded percent
sunshine in August was 74% for the month in 1971. Our percent sunshine to
date is 81% through the 11th.

Also, we are in desperate need of some significant precipitation. It has
rained only one day this month and we now stand at 1.14 inches below for
August.

There is no relief in sight and our record breaking weather will continue
as hot, humid, and sunny weather will dominate till weeks end.
